Chicago Homes - Finding the Perfect Fit
Chicago homes come in aevery shape and size, from simple bungalows to tower block condominiums. Chicago is also host to a colorful and vital culture. This culture can be seen in the singular architectural stylings that make Chicago such a beautiful area to explore. Examples of Architecture There are many different styles of architecture in the Windy City. According to Chicago Homes Online, both Frank Lloyd Wright and Gothic Revival influence the structures of the city. Frank Lloyd Wright revolutionized numerous characteristics of Chicago architecture. Chicago is the site of many of Frank Lloyd Wright's projects. His "Robie House" is almost one hundred years old and is still a focus for the Chicago public. The downtown portion of Chicago also exhibits a sampling of buildings designed by Wright and his disciples. Chicago also has lots of gothic churches and gothic-influenced structures. One way to catch a lot of these buildings is to tour the structures at the University of Chicago, on the southern edge of the city. Bungalows Abound One form of Chicago area home is the good old bungalow. In a story entitled "The Bungalow: Sweet Home Chicago," WTTW 11 states that thirty-three percent of Chicago single family buildings are bungalows. That makes for a total of more than eighty thousand homes! As stated by WTTW 11, these bungalows were made sometime between 1910 and 1940. Most of these residences are rectangular and one-and-a-half floors. These homes were the first to include modern plumbing , central heating, and electricity. Chicago founded the recent "Bungalow Initiative" in the year 2000 to celebrate the beauty and specialness of Chicago bungalows. About Chicago Lofts and Condominiums Condos and lofts are also popular Chicago homes. These run the gamut from very basic units to princely shoreline condominiums. Condos are purchased, but lofts are usually rented by the occupant. Polk Street Station, for example, has rental lofts ranging from $900-$2500 per month. A few of the Condos and Lofts on the market however, are a great deal more pricey. One can find a variety of prices, starting from $189,900 for a single bedroom, 1 bathroom, 600 square foot condo, to $1,175,000 for a three bed, three bathroom, 3500 square foot condo.
