In a piece called "The Bungalow: Sweet Home Chicago," WTTW 11 volunteers that a third of Chicago single family properties are bungalows. That amounts to better than 80,000 homes! According to WTTW 11, these buildings arose between 1910 and 1940. The majority of of these places are rectangular and one-and-a-half levels. When they were built, these homes were some of the first to have central heating , electricity, and modern plumbing. Chicago established the historic "Bungalow Initiative" in 2000 to honor the simple beauty and unique qualities of Chicago bungalows.
