Sales of single-family homes fell to a new low during the first quarter in Portage Park. The neighborhood was one of the hardest hit by the downturn in sales around Chicago.
According to data from the Chicago Association of Realtors, a total of just 33 new and re-sale homes were sold in the area during the first quarter, down from 61 units sold during the same period in 2007. It was the third straight year that sales have fallen in the neighborhood, and nearly two-thirds off the high of 95 homes sold in 1998.
