Residents of a 53-acre parcel of land that was recently annexed by Oak Forest showed up at the city council meeting to voice their outrage.
The city annexed the property located at the corner of Cicero and 167th Street during the city council meeting held on November 27th. Residents complained that they had not been notified by city officials of the proposal.
Some residents had hoped to be annexed by Country Club Hills, which was expected to be more successful in luring commercial development to the neighborhood.
It’s not the first time that Oak Forest has attempted to annex the land. In 2003, homeowners in the area came to an agreement with Mayor Gordon to work together to market the property to businesses without going forward with annexation.
Local residents are facing a long battle to reverse the annexation. We can only hope that the best is done for the city to develop and attract new businesses and revive the real estate market after one of the slowest quarters in recent years.
