Rare de-annexation of village land gets go ahead

A judge in DuPage County has given the go ahead for the de-annexation of a development in Oakbrook Terrace.  The motion was brought by developer Robert Krilich, a Chicago developer who was recently released from jail after serving a term for racketeering in a case related to the development.

The decision by DuPage County Circuit Judge Kenneth Popejoy will make it possible for Krilich to seek approval for his new residential and commercial development from Villa Park city officials.

The area is home to developments of single-family homes.  However, if Mr. Krilich gets his way, he may develop two apartment buildings and a shopping center at the site.  The land is located on Butterfield Road between 22nd Street and Summit Ave.

Mr. Krilich has not made his plans for the site public.  However, previous plans included 27 and 31-floor apartment towers.

Sales of homes and condos were down around Villa Park during the third quarter, according to statistics from the Chicago Association of Realtors.  A weak real estate market could alter the plans for the land.  As sales of Chicago Homes and condos drop around the city, many developers have canceled projects.
